Agros
is the village in the centre of Troodos district.
A 19th century church now stands where once
was the site of the Panagia Eleousa monastery,
which was founded by monks from Constantinople
during the 9th century. |

its steep wooden roof, which was built to
protect it from climatologically conditions,

village of Kakopetria. |

sweets. Visitors may also visit the Pilavakeion

Panagia
Podithou, The village of Galata, Troodos.
In
and around the village and Galata region,
there are four churches which date back as
early as the beginning of the 16th century.
Firstly, the church of Panagia Podithou once
belonged to a monastery. First erected in
1502, its paintings are typical of those from
the Ital-Byzantine influence. |

Kykkos
Monastery, 20 Kilometers West, of Pedoulas village.
The
Kykkos monastery in Troodos, is of all, the
most famous of monasteries in Cyprus. First
founded in 1100, it was dedicated to the Virgin
Mary, and possesses one of the three surviving
icons ascribed to Saint Luke.

Makheras
Monastery was founded in 1148 by two monks,
after discovering an icon of Virgin Mary in
a nearby cave. The monastery is located in
a picturesque setting, secluded within the
Makheras Mountains. |

Moutoullas
- Panagia tou Moutoullas
Less than a kilometer from Moutoullas
village is the small chapel of Panayia tou
Moutoulla. This 13th century chapel is one
of the earliest examples which have the steep-pitched
type wooden roof. Inside the chapel there
are frescoes dating to 1280. The traditional
Cypriot craft of carving wood basins has been
preserved and still practiced today.

Panayia
tou Araka - Lagoudera village, (15 kilometers
from Agros), Troodos.
The 12th century church of Panayia
tou Araka is located just outside the village
of lagoudera. Inside the church, the frecoes
which are some of the finest of the late Communion
style,(circa 1192) prevailing throughout Greece,
the Balkans and Russia.

Pedhoulas
Village, Troodos.
Pedhoulas
is the third village up the Troodos Mountains,
and popular summer resort, famous for its
cherries which are grown locally. The large
white church, Archangelos Michail, in the
lower part of the village dates back to 1474,
and listed as one of the nine Cypriot churches
included within the UNESCO World Heritage
list. |

Appoximately
Two Kilometers South-West of Pera Pedi, (off
the Limassol - Troodos road).
The
village of KoilaniI is an attractive village,
known for producing wine. The village has
two local museums, the Ecclesiastical museum,
and the Viticulture museum.

The
beautiful old village of Palaichori has two
local museums. The first of two is the Ecclesiastic
Museum, and the second being the Struggle
Museum. The former houses various religious
icons, and other consecrated vessels from
various churches from the village, and the
latter once actually served as a hideout for
heroes of the EOKA Independent Struggle during
1955-1959.

Platanistasa
village, (15 Kilometers from Agros - (3 Kilometers
off the Lefkosia-Astromeritis road).
The
church of Stavros tou Ayiazmati is from the
15th century, situated three kilometers outside
the charming village of Platanistas. The church
retains the most complete cycle collection,
of mural paintings, from the second half of
the 15th century, in Cyprus.
